What to Expect When You Hire Me to Design Your New Kitchen

When you contact me regarding a new kitchen project I can understand the excitement of having a new kitchen but also the trepidation that you will be feeling especially regarding costs and the mess that you will have to live, and cook, in while the work is happening! Therefore, I want to be able to make the process go as smoothly as possible for you and I can organise everything from the concept stages, to quotes, to the final kitchen design, through project management and the finishing touches at the end.

There is a basic design process that I will follow, however because you are hiring me and not a big company I am very flexible and will accommodate to suit you. I also don’t have my own showroom, so I can pass the savings I make on to you. We are, however, fortunate that we are close to the beautiful Second Nature kitchen showroom and visiting there will form part of my service to you:

1. Initial Meeting

After contacting me we will arrange an initial meeting in your home. During this meeting we will discuss your requirements including budget, time scale, your preferences and expectations. I will explain my fees and take photographs and measurements.

2. Design Work Quote

After the meeting I will send you a quote for the design work and an invoice for a retainer fee. If you are happy to continue we will proceed to arrange a visit to the showroom.

3. Showroom Meeting

We will meet at the showroom and over tea or coffee I will show you my initial idea options. Then you will have plenty of time to look around while I will be taking notes about what you do and don’t like. If you want a British Standard Cupboard kitchen you can see loads of inspirational kitchens on their website here:

4. Design Stage

After the visit I will continue with the design and we will arrange up to 2 visits to your home and 1 more visit to the showroom as and when required. These visits will be included in the quoted fee and any extra visits will be charged at my hourly fee. We will of course communicate by phone and email as required.

5. Build Stage

Once we are both happy with the design we move into the build stage. I will prepare the drawings for the builders, advise you of local contacts that I have, and arrange for the delivery of the kitchen.

If you wish for me to project manage the build that will be discussed from the start and if it is a large project I have a project manager that I work with.

After the Build

After the build is complete I can arrange a thorough cleaning service, if required, and there is the option of interior styling for that professional finish.

Once the kitchen is all complete I always appreciate feedback for my website and the chance to be able to come in and take some professional photographs.

I love to have a chat with your regarding your kitchen, please don't hesitate to get in touch.
